Soothing Turmeric Ginger Lemon Tea
Turmeric ginger lemon tea is both soothing and refreshing, just the thing to pick you up on a miserable day. Plus, this tea is perfect to clear your head if you have a headache or a cold!

In Caribbean culture, tea is the go-to drink for just about everything. Whether you’re starting the day or winding down, a warm cup of something brewed feels like home. This blend is one of my favorites, a warm cup of fresh ginger, turmeric, and lemon.

How to make turmeric ginger tea with lemon
Ingredients needed
- Fresh ginger (washed) – some people prefer to use organic ginger. Using nonorganic does not lessen the properties of ginger, it’s just fewer chemicals when growing.
- Fresh turmeric root (washed)
- Cloves.
- Lemon slices.
- Fresh lemon juice.
- Raw honey to sweeten.
Preparation
- Finely slice the turmeric and ginger. They can be tough, so a sharp knife is your best friend here.
- Add the sliced turmeric and ginger to a pot of water, along with the cloves.
- Bring the pot to a boil over medium heat. Let it boil for five minutes.
- Remove from the heat, then drop in the lemon slices.
- Cover the pot and let it steep for ten minutes. This gives the flavors time to come together.
- Add lemon juice for extra zing, and sweeten with honey to taste. Serve warm.
Notes
- No need to peel the ginger, turmeric, or lemon. Just give them a good wash before using.
- You can double the batch if youโd like some extra tea to store. If you do, remove the solids once it reaches the flavor you likeโletting them sit too long makes the tea stronger (and sometimes bitter).
- Not into floating bits in your cup? Strain the tea before serving.
Substitutions
- If you prefer not to use honey, you can sweeten your tea using a little maple syrup instead.
- Canโt find fresh turmeric or ginger? Use the powdered versions. I suggest a 1:ยฝ ratio of ginger to turmeric. Keep in mind the flavor wonโt be quite the same.
- If you’re used to adding a pinch of black pepper to turmeric drinks, you canโbut know itโll slightly shift the taste.
Storing
Pour any leftover tea into a covered jug or container and store it in the fridge. It should last a few days. I recommend removing the lemon slices before storing to avoid bitterness from the rind.
Reheating
You can reheat your tea either on the stovetop or in the microwave.
On the stovetop: Heat gently over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Tiny bubbles will start to form when itโs ready.
In the microwave: Heat in a mug in 30-second bursts, checking after each round. It should take about 1 to 2 minutes.
